REGULAR MEETING
MARCH 1, 2022
5:30 P.M.
Present were; Board Chairwoman Allison Fenderson, Secretary Lin Coker, Members: Betsy
McCormick, James Currin and Lewis Bell
Also Present were; Director Claire Jones and Election Technician Jessica Higginbotham

Ms. Fenderson called the meeting to order at 5:32 pm with a moment of silence and Pledge of
Allegiance.

Minutes:
The Board reviewed the minutes from February 1, 2022. Mr. Currin moved to approve the
minutes. Mrs. McCormick seconded. Approved without dissent.
Business:
Mrs. Jones submitted the revised budget to the Board. Mrs. Jones stated that this budget did
include funds for four early voting sites in November and additional funds for advertising. Mr.
Currin moved to approve the budget. Mrs. McCormick seconded. Approved without dissent.
Mr. Lewis discussed conducting a Time Motion Study at the Board of Elections office to validate
the need for an additional staff person. Mrs. Jones stated that is was worth looking into but it
would not be possible before the March 7 deadline for the budget. The Board agreed to revisit
this topic at a future meeting.
Mrs. Jones updated the Board on the following items:
Candidate filing had resumed
Job postings have closed and the hiring panel would be reviewing them soon
Calendar
o SBOE Conference March 14-15
o Absentee voting by mail begins March 28
o Election worker training is March 31-April 5
o Regular and absentee meeting on May 3
Mr. Currin moved to combine the May 3, 5:00 pm absentee meeting and 5:30 pm regular
meeting, with the meeting start time at 5:00 pm. Mr. Bell seconded. Approved without dissent.
Mr. Currin discussed with the Board, his willingness to work directly with the high schools
(Harnett Central, Overhills, Star Academy, Triton and Western Harnett) to get more students
registered and pre -registered. Mrs. McCormick moved to allow Mr. Currin to work with the
schools. Mr. Bell seconded. Approved without dissent.
With no further business to discuss, Mr. Bell moved to adjourn. Mrs. McCormick seconded. The
meeting adjourned at 6:41 pm.
The next meeting of the Board will be a regular meeting on April 5, 2022 at 5:30 pm.
