REGULAR MEETING
MAY 4, 2021
4:00 P.M.
Present were; Board Chairman Tony Spears, Secretary Lin Coker, Members: Steve Blackburn,
Betsy McCormick, Jim Currin, Director Claire Jones and Deputy Director Claudette Williams.
Mr. Spears called the meeting to order at 4:00 pm with a prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance.
Minutes:
The Board reviewed the minutes from April 6, 2021. After some discussion, Mr. Coker moved to
approve the minutes. Mr. Currin seconded. Approved without dissent.
Business:
The Board reviewed an email from Assistant County Manager, Brian Haney, stating that the
Board of Elections office will not move to the old Harnett County library. The BOE office will
be included in a space/feasibility survey to determine the best options for a suitable space.
The Board discussed the simulated election held on May 3, 2021. The event was successful and
the random hand eye count matched the results exactly. After some discussion Mr. Blackburn
moved to seek State Board of Elections approval to acquire the ES&S voting system. Mr. Coker
seconded. Approved without dissent. Afterwards, Mr. Coker moved to approve the Resolution
for the Harnett County Commissioners to acquire the ES&S voting system "pending SBOE
approval." Mrs. McCormick seconded. Approved without dissent.
Mr. Blackburn moved to go into closed session to discuss personnel. Mr. Currin seconded.
Approved without dissent. The Board went into closed session at 4:30pm
Mr. Currin moved to return to open session. Mr. Coker seconded. Approved without dissent. The
Board returned to open session at 5:27 pm
With no further business to discuss, Mr. Currin moved to adjourn. Mr. Blackburn seconded. The
meeting was adjourned at 5:29 pm.
The next regular meeting of the Board is June 1 at 4:00 pm at the Harnett County Resource
Center training room.
