REGULAR MEETING
JUNE 1, 2021
4:00 P.M.
Present were; Board Chairman Tony Spears, Secretary Lin Coker, Members: Betsy McCormick,
Jim Currin
Also present were: Director Claire Jones.
Mr. Spears called the meeting to order at 4:12 pm with a prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance.
Minutes:
The Board reviewed the minutes from May 4, 2021. After some discussion, Mr. Currin moved to
approve the minutes. Mrs. McCormick seconded. Approved without dissent.
Business:
Mrs. Jones updated the Board on the following topics:
Voting Equipment
• State Board approval received on May 13, 2021
• County Commissioners approval on May 17, 2021
• Harnett County legal review/approval of contract on June 1, 2021
• Last step is to pay invoice
Municipal Election
• SB722 would delay election for towns that may have to redistrict
• Angier and Erwin may have to redistrict
• Coats and Lillington do not have to redistrict
• One -stop voting to be held at the Harnett County Commons area due to lack of space at
Board of Elections office (Informal Board consent)
County Board Appointment
• State Board appoints new County Board members on June 29, 2021
• New County Board members sworn in July 20, 2021
o August 17- County Board appoints Precinct Judges
o September- Begin regular meetings and Absentee meetings
Mr. Spears stated that he was not going to seek reappointment to the Board of Elections.
With no further business to discuss, Mr. Coker moved to adjourn. Mr. Currin seconded. The
meeting was adjourned at 4:49 pm.
The next meeting of the Board is the swearing in ceremony on July 20 at 12:00 pm at the Harnett
County Resource Center training room.
