REGULAR MEETING
_ AUGUST 17, 2021
5:00 P.M.
Present were; Board Chairman Allison Fenderson, Secretary Lin Coker, Members: Betsy
McCormick, James Currin and Lewis Bell
Also Present were; Director Claire Jones and Deputy Claudette Williams

Mrs. Jones called the meeting to order at 5:00pm.
Per NCGS 163-30, Mrs. McCormick took the oath of office.
Minutes:
The Board reviewed the minutes from June 1 and July 20, 2021. After some discussion, Mr.
Currin moved to approve the minutes. Mr. Bell seconded. Approved without dissent.
Business:
The Board reviewed the list of recommended appointed judges, attached hereto. After some
discussion, Mr. Bell moved to approve the list. Mr. Coker seconded. Approved without dissent.
The Board discussed the One -Stop plan for the November municipals. Mrs. Jones stated that
voter turnout is typically low for municipals and recommended only being open during business
hours and the last statutorily required Saturday. Also, due to lack of space at the Board of
Elections office, Mrs. Jones also recommended using the Commons Area in lieu of the office.
This location was used during the 2020 General election. Mr. Currin moved to adopt the one -
stop plan below. Mrs. McCormick seconded. Approved without dissent.

The Board reviewed the calendar of upcoming meeting dates. After some discussion Mrs.
McCormick moved to change the regular meeting date to the first Tuesday of the month at
5:30pm. Mr. Bell seconded. Approved without dissent. Due to absentee ballots not being mailed
1 until October 1, Mr. Currin moved to cancel the September 28 absentee meeting. Mrs.
McCormick seconded. Approved without dissent.
Mrs. Jones reported to the Board:
• Wellness Check
• Ballot proofing beginning
• Election Notices
• Election Worker Training
• Voting Machine Setup

• Introduce Board of Elections Staff
With no further business to discuss, Mr. Coker moved to adjourn. Mr. Bell seconded. The
meeting was adjourned at 5:44 pm.
The next meeting of the Board will be a Regular meeting on September 7, 2021 at 5:30 pm.
