REGULAR MEETING
SEPTEMBER 1, 2020
4:00 P.M.
Present were; Board Chairman Tony Spears, Secretary Lin Coker, Members: Steve Blackburn,
Betsy McCormick and Jim Currin.
Also Present were; Director Claire Jones, Deputy Director Claudette Williams and; see sign in
sheet attached hereto.
Mr. Spears called the meeting to order at 4:00 pm with a prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance.
Minutes:
The Board reviewed the minutes from August 11, 2020. Mr. Currin moved to approve the
minutes. Mr. Blackburn seconded. Approved without dissent.
Business:
The Board reviewed the number of election workers required and funds available. After looking
through the budget and Cares Funds, the Board discussed the need to supply the Election
Workers with a lump sum hazard pay for Election Day. Mr. Currin moved to give each Election
Day worker an additional $50 for hazard pay. Mr. Blackburn seconded. Approved without
dissent.
Mrs. Jones stated that we may have Campbell student volunteers available to help outside voting
sites to direct traffic and help with line control. These students need x amount of hours of
volunteer time and this partnership would be beneficial to both parties.
Mrs. Jones updated the Board on several election related items:
• One -Stop plan approved by State Board of Elections
• Election worker training September 17-22
• Kay began working remotely September 1
• Absentee by mail begins Friday
o Over 4,000 to go out
• Advertising
• Acquiring a Postage Machine in office
• Judicial Guide mailing- mid September
• Sample ballots on website
• COVID Planning
o State supplied PPE
o Clear divider for election sites
With no further business to discuss, Mr. Coker moved to adjourn. Mr. Currin seconded. The
meeting was adjourned at 4:57 pm.
The next meeting of the Board will be an Absentee meeting on September 29 at 5:00 pm at the
Harnett County Administration Building.
