CANVASS MEETING
MARCH 13, 2019
11:00 A.M.
Present were; Board Chairman Tony Spears, Secretary Lin Coker, Members: Steve Blackburn,
and Jim Currin. Director Claire Jones and Deputy Director Claudette Williams
Also Present were; see sign -in sheet
Mr. Spears called the meeting to order at 11:00 am with a prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance.
Minutes:
The Board reviewed the minutes from March 12, 2020. Mr. Coker moved to approve the
minutes. Mr. Currin seconded. Approved without dissent.
Business:
Mrs. Jones submitted to the Board the precinct audits, attached hereto. No issues affected any
results from any precinct.
The mandatory random hand -eye count was performed on Thursday March 5, by a bi-partisan
team. The precincts chosen were Election Day Northwest Harnett and Neills Creek. The hand
count matched the machine count exactly.
No protests or issues were pending that could delay Canvass.
The Board reviewed the Canvass reports. After some discussion Mr. Coker moved to approve
Canvass. Mr. Currin seconded. Approved without dissent.
Mrs. Jones informed the Board that no contest was within range for a second primary; however,
the Commissioner District 3 contest is within range for a recount and Mr. Penny submitted a
request for a recount. Mrs. Jones scheduled the recount for March 17 at 8:OOam.
Mrs. Jones informed the Board that the Department Budget meeting would be March 16 at
11:OOam, if anyone one was interested in attending.
With no further business to discuss, Mr. Currin moved to adjourn. Mr. Blackburn seconded. The
meeting was adjourned at 11:16 am.
The next meeting of the Board will be a regular meeting on April 7 at 4:00 pm at the Harnett
County Board of Elections office.
