ABSENTEE MEETING
SEPTEMBER 24, 2019
5:00 P.M.
Present were; Board Chairman Tony Spears, Members: Steve Blackburn, Betsy McCormick and
Lin Coker
Also Present were; Director Claire Jones and Deputy Director Claudette Williams
Mr. Spears called the meeting to order at 5:OOpm with a prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance.
Minutes:
The Board reviewed the minutes from September 17, 2019. Mrs. McCormick moved to approve
the minutes. Mr. Coker seconded. Approved without dissent.
Business:
The Board reviewed the list of absentee ballots, attached hereto. There were ten one -stop voters
and one absentee ballot by mail returned. After some discussion, Mrs. McCormick moved to
approve the absentee list. Mr. Coker seconded. Approved without dissent.
Mrs. Jones also reported to the Board:
• Mrs. Jones and Mrs. Harris attended the voting systems demo in Mecklenburg County
and received the information needed for the Capital Improvement Plan
• The Cyber-Security training was informative, but was geared more toward IT
personnel.
• The Dunn Community Building is unusable for the 2020 Elections. Mrs. Jones will
reach out to Erwin Town Manager to see what can be utilized/improved in Erwin.
• Reply from Lillington Community Building expected by Friday
• Addressed corrected security issues at Board of Elections office.
The Board then moved to the room with the absentee M100. The Board opened the absentee by
mail M100 and verified the beginning number was zero. The Board inserted the one absentee by
mail ballot and verified the final number was one.
With no further business to discuss, Mr. Coker moved to adjourn. Mr. Blackburn seconded. The
meeting was adjourned at 5:41 pm.
The next meeting of the Board will be an Absentee and Regular meeting on October 1, 2019 at
5:00 pm.
