HomeMy WebLinkAboutHCBOE Board Meeting Minutes- September 17, 2019- Regular and Absentee MeetingHARNETT COUNTY BOARD OF ELECTIONS REGULAR/ABSENTEE MEETING SEPTEMBER 17, 2019 5:00 P.M. Present were; Board Chairman Tony Spears, Members: Steve Blackburn, Betsy McCormick and Lin Coker Also Present were; Director Claire Jones and Deputy Director Claudette Williams Mr. Spears called the meeting to order at 5:00pm with a prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance. Minutes: The Board reviewed the minutes from August 20, 2019. Mr. Coker moved to approve the minutes. Mr. Blackburn seconded. Approved without dissent. Business: Since no ballots were returned, there was no absentee list to review. The Board discussed 2020 One -stop. Due to the increased popularity of one -stop voting there are some concerns about two locations, the BOE office and the Erwin Community building. These sites are not large enough and the parking is limited. After some discussion Mr. Spears moved to have Mrs. Jones contact the Lillington and Dunn Community buildings and see into using those locations as replacements. Mrs. McCormick seconded. Approved without dissent. Mrs. Jones also reported to the Board: • Precinct Worker training was completed and all workers have been assigned • One -Stop begins September 18 • September 23 Mrs. Jones and Mrs. Harris will be attending a voting systems demo in Mecklenburg County (BOE and Commissioners will attend one in or near Harnett in 2021) and a cyber-security training in Cabarrus County • CIP for new voting equipment in FY 21-22 is due September 26 • BOE staff will attend all seasonal town festivals to promote registrations, early voting, etc. With no further business to discuss, Mr. Coker moved to adjourn. Mrs. McCormick seconded. The meeting was adjourned at 5:41 pm. The next meeting of the Board will be an Absentee meeting on September 24, 2019 at 5:00 pm.
