ABSENTEE AND PRE -ELECTION MEETING
OCTOBER 22, 2019
5:00 P.M.
Present were; Board Chairman Tony Spears, Secretary Joseph Powell, Members: Betsy
McCormick and Lin Coker
Also Present were; Director Claire Jones and Deputy Director Claudette Williams
Mr. Spears called the meeting to order at 5:03pm with a prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance.
Minutes:
The Board reviewed the Absentee/Provisional and Canvass minutes from October 14, 2019. Mr.
Powell moved to approve the minutes. Mr. Coker seconded. Approved without dissent.
Business:
The Board reviewed the list of absentee ballots, attached hereto. There were 33 one -stop voters
and zero absentee ballots by mail returned. After some discussion, Mrs. McCormick moved to
approve the absentee list. Mr. Powell seconded. Approved without dissent.
Mrs. Jones informed the Board that the SBOE will hold their Conference at the Embassy Suites
Charlotte -Concord on February 3rd- 4th� 2020.
The Board discussed early voting at the Board of Elections office in 2020. Lillington Town
Manager, Joseph Jeffries offered the town hall building as an alternate location. The Board
discussed pros and cons of the two locations. After some discussion the Board informally
decided to stay at the BOE office to avoid voter confusion. Mrs. Jones informed the Board that
the One -stop plan was tentatively due to the SBOE by December 9, 2019, so more discussions
will take place.
With no further business to discuss, Mr. Coker moved to adjourn. Mrs. McCormick seconded.
The meeting was adjourned at 5:18 pm.
The next meeting of the Board will be an Absentee meeting on October 29, 2019 at 5:00 pm.
