ELECTION DAY ABSENTEE MEETING
NOVEMBER 5, 2019
5:00 P.M.
Present were; Board Chairman Tony Spears, Members: Steve Blackburn, Betsy McCormick and
Lin Coker
Also Present were; Director Claire Jones and Deputy Director Claudette Williams
Mr. Spears called the meeting to order at 5:00pm with a prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance.
Minutes:
The Board reviewed the minutes from November 4, 2019. Mr. Coker moved to approve the
minutes. Mr. Blackburn seconded. Approved without dissent.
Business:
The Board reviewed the list of absentee ballots, attached hereto. There was 1 absentee ballot by
mail returned. After some discussion, Mr. Blackburn moved to approve the absentee list. Mr.
Coker seconded. Approved without dissent. The final total for absentee by mail ballots is 2 and
one -stop ballots is 69.
The Board ran the additional absentee ballot through the absentee M100 and then closed the
One -Stop and Absentee by Mail M100 machines. The Board signed the tapes, completed the
Absentee Abstract for the State Board of Elections and filled out the write-in tally sheet. All
results will be released at 7:30pm.
Mrs. Jones informed the Board of a few Election Day issues:
• Black River did not have inside lights until around 7; however, voting was not delayed.
• Scan Bar error on Black River M100, emergency bin used until corrected. Voting was not
disrupted.
• Voter complaint about electioneer in Black River
• Parent complaint about using school at Anderson Creek
Mrs. Jones also informed the Board that the sample hand count would be completed in the office
on November 7, 2019 at 8:30am by a bi-partisan team.
With no further business to discuss, Mrs. McCormick moved to adjourn. Mr. Coker seconded.
The meeting was adjourned at 5:47 pm.
The next meeting of the Board will be an Absentee/Provisional meeting on November 15, 2019
at 10:00 am, followed by Canvass at 11:00am.
