REGULAR MEETING
MAY 7, 2019
4:00 P.M.
Present were; Board Chairman Tony Spears, Secretary Joseph Powell, Members: Steve
Blackburn, Betsy McCormick and Lin Coker
Also Present were; Director Claire Jones and Deputy Director Claudette Williams
Also Present: See sign in sheet
Mr. Spears called the meeting to order at 4:OOpm with a prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance.
Minutes:
The Board reviewed the minutes from April 3, 2019. Mr. Powell moved to approve the minutes.
Mrs. McCormick seconded. Approved without dissent.
Business:
Mrs. Jones reported to the Board:
• 2019-2020 Budget (no change)
• Possible Precinct changes/HB 1014 updates process
• County Voter ID machine up and running/ 7 IDs issued
The Board discussed precinct worker training and some issues to address during training such as:
• More detailed end of night checklist
• Clarification of station duties/ possible color coded
• Break down duties by time of day
• More basic technology training or notation of those that need additional training
• Ask County to give employees that work polls a day off without using vacation or comp
time
• Use Public Utilities training room instead of Commons area if possible.
Mr. Spears suggested that the Board address curbside and building perimeters at a future
meeting. Mrs. Jones stated that she will provide pictures of all polling places with the buffer
zones marked, so it will be clear where electioneering is not allowed.
With no further business to discuss, Mrs. McCormick moved to adjourn. Mr. Coker seconded.
The meeting was adjourned at 4:46 pm.
The next meeting of the Board will be a regular meeting on June 4, 2019 at 4:00 pm.
