REGULAR MEETING
APRIL 3, 2019
4:00 P.M.
Present were; Board Chairman Tony Spears, Secretary Joseph Powell, Members: Steve
Blackburn, Betsy McCormick and Lin Coker
Also Present were; Director Claire Jones and Deputy Claudette Williams
Mr. Spears called the meeting to order at 4:00pm with a prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance.
Minutes:
The Board reviewed the minutes from March 5, 2019. Mr. Powell moved to approve the minutes.
Mr. Blackburn seconded. Approved without dissent.
Business:
The Board addressed the need to move the Neills Creek polling place from the John W Pope
Convocation Center to the Buies Creek Fire Station. After some discussion Mr. Powell moved to
approve the change. Mr. Blackburn seconded. Approved without dissent.
The Board discussed the One -Stop plan for the 2019 Municipal elections. Mrs. Jones stated that
one -stop voting is typically low for municipals and historically, extended hours and locations are
not necessary. Under the current law any extension of hours would require the office to be open
from 7am-7pm every day. After some discussion Mrs. McCormick moved to have one -stop at
the County Board office and only during business hours. Mr. Coker seconded. Approved without
dissent. Mrs. Jones stated that if there is a change in law that allows for one -stop flexibility, she
will readdress this with the Board.
Mrs. Jones reported to the Board:
• 2019-2020 Budget submitted.
• Possible Precinct changes per session law 2016-109
• Voter ID public meetings- Tentatively August 20 and 22
• County Voter ID machine ordered
0 SBOE Training/Conference July 29-30
With no further business to discuss, Mr. Blackburn moved to adjourn. Mr. Powell seconded. The
meeting was adjourned at 4:54 pm.
The next meeting of the Board will be a regular meeting on May 7, 2019 at 4:00 pm.
