ELECTION DAY/ABSENTEE MEETING
MAY 8, 2018
5:00 P.M.
Present were; Board Chairman Tony Spears, Vice -Chair Joseph Powell, Secretary Steve
Blackburn, Member Don Schroeder and Director Claire Jones
Mr. Spears called the meeting to order at 5:42 pm.
Minutes:
The Board reviewed the minutes from May 7, 2018. Mr. Blackburn moved to approve the
minutes. Mr. Schroeder seconded. Approved without dissent.
Business:
There were no additional absentee ballots to approve. The Board reviewed the ballot duplication
plan and duplicated two emailed military absentee ballots. All absentee ballots were run through
the m100. The absentee and all one -stop m100s were closed and the results were printed. The
absentee abstract was prepared. Mr. Powell moved to approve the absentee abstract. Mr.
Schroeder seconded. Approved without dissent. The Board signed the abstract. The results will
be released at 7:30pm.
The Board discussed a few polling place issues:
• Anderson Creek had an m 100 card fail. It was replaced and voting was not disrupted
• Barbecue had an m100 machine fail. It was replaced and voting was not disrupted
• West Averasboro has a resource officer parked in front of polling place. He moved the
car as soon as we were notified. Also, they did not have their printers set up properly and
had to hand write the first few ATV forms, however, voting was not disrupted.
• Johnsonville had a problem with the direction of traffic. The principal changed it and the
office and election staff were not notified until Election Day.
Mrs. Jones informed the Board that the state mandated hand eye count will be Thursday, May
10, at 8:30am. The State will inform the County on Wednesday of which precincts are to be
counted.
With no further business to discuss, Mr. Blackburn moved to adjourn. Mr. Powell seconded. The
meeting was adjourned at 6:55 pm.
The next meeting of the Board will be a Provisional/Absentee meeting on May 18, 2018 at 10:00
am, followed by Canvass at 11:00am.
