REGULAR MEETING
MARCH 6, 2018
4:00 P.M.
Present were; Board Chairman James Currin, Board Secretary Tony Spears, Board Member
Joseph Powell, Director Claire Jones and Deputy Director Claudette Williams
Also present were; see attached sign -in sheet
Mr. Currin called the meeting to order at 4:00 pm.
Minutes:
The Board reviewed the minutes from February 13, 2018. Mr. Powell moved to approve the
minutes. Mr. Spears seconded. Approved without dissent.
Business:
Mrs. Jones updated the Board on various office activities:
• Cooper v. Berger
Redistricted House Changes- Voter cards mailed to all affected voters
• Filing Closed/ Contested Primary Offices
• Ballot Proofing
The Board reviewed the upcoming election calendar. Mr. Spears had a conflict with the Absentee
meeting on May 1st. Mr. Powell moved to change the May 1st meeting to May 2nd at 5:00. Mr.
Spears seconded. Approved without dissent.
Mrs. Jones stated that the State Board of Elections contacted the office to inform them of issues
with using modems to retrieve results on election night was not a secure method. After some
discussion Mr. Spears moved to discontinue using the modems. Mr. Powell seconded. Approved
without dissent.
The Board reviewed the one -stop plan submitted at the meeting on February 13. Mr. Powell
moved to approve the one -stop plan. Mr. Currin seconded. After some discussion, the Board
opened the floor for the public to comment. All those that spoke were in favor of Sunday voting.
After the public comments were closed, The Board voted 2-1 with Mr. Spears casting the
dissenting vote. Mr. Spears then moved to approve the same one -stop plan with the addition of
two Sundays with the hours of 1:00pm-5:00pm at all satellite sites. The motion failed to receive
a second.
With no further business to discuss, Mr. Powell moved to adjourn. Mr. Spears seconded. The
meeting was adjourned at 5:14 pm.
The next meeting of the Board will be the regular meeting on April 3, 2018 at 4:00 pm.
