REGULAR AND ABSENTEE MEETING
OCTOBER 3, 2017
5:00 P.M.
Present were; Board Chairman James Currin, Board Secretary Tony Spears, Board Member
Joseph Powell and Director Claire Jones
Also present were; Jean Sivoli, Democratic Chair and Steve Blackburn
Mr. Currin called the meeting to order at 5:00 pm.
Minutes:
The Board reviewed the minutes from August 22, 2017, September 5, 2017, September 19, 2017
and September 26, 2017. Mr. Powell moved to approve the minutes. Mr. Spears seconded.
Approved without dissent.
Business:
The Board reviewed absentee list, attached hereto. Mr. Spears moved to approve the list. Mr.
Powell seconded. Approved without dissent. Mrs. Jones stated that if at least 4 other people did
not vote early, the absentee results will have to be merged into the Election Day results to protect
voter privacy.
Mrs. Jones informed the Board that:
• The deadline to request an absentee ballot by mail was 5:00 and only one person
requested a ballot for the Erwin election. Again if the voter returns the ballot by
election day it will be merged into the election day results to protect voter privacy
• One -stop voting will end Saturday October 7 at 1:00
• New State Board employee, Erica McCormick and new Lee County Director,
Parker Holland will be in the office on Election Day to observe the Election Day
procedures.
• Absentee voting for November 7, 2017 begins October 8
With no further business to discuss, Mr. Spears moved to adjourn. Mr. Powell seconded. The
meeting was adjourned at 5:15 pm.
The next meeting of the Board will be the pre-election/absentee meeting on October 9, 2017 at
5:00 pm.
