CANVASS MEETING
NOVEMBER 17, 2017
11:00 A.M.
Present were; Board Chairman James Currin, Board Secretary Tony Spears, Board Member
Joseph Powell and Director Claire Jones
Also present: see attached sign in sheet
Mr. Currin called the meeting to order at 11:14 am.
Business:
Mrs. Jones reported that the Election Day audits were completed and balanced. Voter history
matched One -Stop (51), Election Day (585) and Provisional (3) with 639 total votes.
The random hand/eye count was performed on November 9, at 8:30 am. The machine count
matched the hand count exactly.
Mrs. Jones informed the Board that an Election Protest was filed by Thomas Ellis concerning the
Coats Election. A copy of the protest was given to each Board Member. Mrs. Jones stated that a
Preliminary Consideration Meeting would need to be held to find if a full hearing was needed.
After some discussion, Mr. Spears moved to hold the preliminary consideration meeting on
Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at 4:00pm. Mr. Powell seconded. Approved without dissent.
Since the Protest does not involve the manner in which the votes were counted the Board is
allowed to Canvass on time. The Board reviewed the Canvass reports. After some discussion Mr.
Powell moved to approve Canvass. Mr. Spears seconded. Approved without dissent.
With no further business to discuss, Mr. Spears moved to adjourn. Mr. Powell seconded. The
meeting was adjourned at 11:27 am.
The next meeting of the Board will be the Preliminary Consideration meeting on November 21 at
4:00 pm.
