ABSENTEE MEETING MINUTES
FEBRUARY 23, 2016
5:00 P.M.
Present were Board Members; James Currin, Tony Spears, Joseph Powell and Director Claire
Jones.
Mr. Currin called the meeting to order at 5:00 pm.
Minutes:
The Board reviewed the minutes from February 9, 2016. Mr. Powell moved to approve the
minutes. Mr. Spears seconded. Approved without dissent.
Business:
The Board discussed appointments for the 2016-2017 MAT team. Mrs. Jones recommended
Deborah Hall, Democrat and Betsy Parker, Republican. Both are MAT trained, served the
previous two years and were always available. Mr. Powell moved to appoint Mrs. Hall and Mrs.
Parker to the 2016-2017 MAT team. Mr. Spears seconded. Approved without dissent.
Mrs. Jones submitted a proposed budget for the Board to review. After some discussion Mr.
Spears moved to allow Mrs. Jones to submit the budget as presented to the Board of
Commissioners. Mr. Powell seconded. Approved without dissent.
Mrs. Jones informed the Board that the Mock Election on February 18 went smoothly. All
uploads worked properly and the website calculated the results correctly. Some counties had
issues viewing the site and the State Board will work to fix those site errors, however there were
no issues with Harnett County.
Mrs. Jones informed the Board that Christopher Duke submitted a letter of resignation. Mr. Duke
was offered a job elsewhere and his last day will be March 4. Mrs. Jones stated she will prepare
to open the position as soon as possible.
The Board reviewed the list of Absentee Voters, attached hereto. To date, 238 ballots have been
mailed out and 19 returned ok. After some discussion Mr. Powell moved to approve the
Absentee list. Mr. Spears seconded. Approved without dissent.
With no other business to discuss, Mr. Spears moved to adjourn. Mr. Powell seconded. The
meeting was adjourned at 5:42 pm. The Board left to attend the Poll Worker training at the
Lillington Community Building at 6:00 pm.
The next Board meeting will be an Absentee meeting on February 23, 2016 at 5:00 pm.
