ABSENTEE MEETING
NOVEMBER 3, 2015
5:00 PM
Present were Board Members; James Currin, Tony Spears, Joseph Powell and Director Claire
Jones.
Mr. Currin called the meeting to order at 5:03 pm.
Minutes:
The Board reviewed the absentee minutes from October 27, 2015. Mr. Powell moved to approve
the minutes. Mr. Spears seconded. Approved without dissent.
Business:
The Board reviewed the absentee list, attached hereto. Four absentee ballots by mail have been
returned and 46 One -stop ballots. Mr. Spears moved to approve the absentee list. Mr. Powell
seconded. Approved without dissent.
The Board discussed combining the absentee by mail results with the One -Stop results due to
concerns over ballot secrecy. Mr. Spears moved to combine the five absentee by mail votes with
' the one -stop results. Mr. Powell seconded. Approved without dissent.
The Board ran the absentee ballots through the one -stop machine and closed the polls. The Board
also completed the write-in tally sheet. The results will be released at 7:30.
Mrs. Jones relayed the Election Day numbers, as of 4:00, to the Board.

The Board discussed Election Day issues they observed as they visited the polling places, such as
polling places that needed more signs, precinct workers listening to I -pods and curbside ballots
need better protection from rain. Mrs. Jones stated that a couple of schools had issues with
getting the lights on. Mr. Currin volunteered to contact Mr. Brooks Matthews before the primary
and make sure that the principals at the schools are aware of our needs and we can work
together.
Mrs. Jones informed the Board that she received a complaint concerning a mailing that was sent
out in Angier. The complainant stated that they felt it was electioneer material sent out and paid
for by the town. Mrs. Jones read the material and nowhere did it mention the election or "vote
for."
With no further business to discuss, Mr. Spears moved to adjourn. Mr. Powell seconded. The
meeting was adjourned at 6:00 pm.
The next meeting will be an Absentee Board meeting on November 10, 2015 at 10:30 am,
followed by Canvass at 11:00 am.
