REGULAR MEETING MINUTES
FEBRUARY 4, 2014
Present were: Chairman James Currin, Secretary Tony Spears, Member Joseph Powell and
Director Claire Jones.
Mr. Currin called the meeting to order at 4:00 pm.
Minutes:
The Board reviewed the minutes from January 7, 2014. Mr. Spears moved to approve the
minutes. Mr. Powell seconded. Approved without dissent.
Business:
The Board reviewed the One -Stop plan for the Primary, attached hereto, to be submitted to the
State Board of Elections. Mrs. Jones stated that the plan included using Angier Elementary as a
fourth location. Mrs. Jones talked with the principal, Virginia Taylor, and she was
accommodating of our using the building for One -Stop. Mr. Powell moved to approve the One -
Stop plan. Mr. Spears Seconded. Approved without dissent.
Mrs. Jones informed the Board that she met with Tommy Burns on January 27. Mrs. Jones
relayed to Mr. Burns the law changes that would affect the Board of Elections and expressed to
Mr. Burns the needs of the office concerning reinstating the fourth position and funding laptops
to use as electronic poll books. Mr. Burns was receptive but also requested information
concerning statues for a possible school bond election to aide in school construction.
The Board discussed planning for the next poll worker training. Mrs. Jones stated that she would
contact the Lillington Community Center and schedule some dates for the end of March. After
some discussion the Board agreed to conduct separate trainings for the Judges and Assistants.
Mrs. Jones informed the Board that she had completed the interview process for Administrative
Support Specialist Position. The person recommended still had to go through the FIR procedures,
such as background/reference checks, before the position will be officially offered.
With no other business to discuss Mr. Spears moved to Adjourn. Mr. Powell seconded. The
meeting was adjourned at 4:30 pm.
The next meeting of the Board is a regular meeting on March 4, 2014 4:00 pm.
