ABSENTEE MEETING MINUTES
OCTOBER 8, 2013
5:00 P.M.
Present were: Chairman James Currin, Secretary Tony Spears, Member Joseph Powell and
Director Claire Jones.
Mr. Currin called the meeting to order at 5:00 pm.
Minutes:
The Board reviewed the minutes from October 1, 2013. Mr. Powell moved to approve the
minutes. Mr. Spears seconded. Approved without dissent.
Business:
The Board reviewed the poll book of absentee voters, attached hereto. Mr. Powell moved to
approve the absentee voters. Mr. Spears seconded. Approved without dissent. Mrs. Jones
indicated that the one absentee by mail ballot received would be combined with the One -Stop
total to preserve voter secrecy.
Ms. Jones informed the Board that everything was running smooth with the Election. Amy
Strange from the State Board was sitting in at the precinct surveying the time it took poll workers
to check in voters and for them to get a ballot. Ms. Strange said state average is 2-4 minutes but
the Erwin poll workers were processing voters in less than 2 minutes.
r 1 The Board went over the process of closing the polls and releasing results at the end of Election
Day. Mrs. Jones talked with the Board about what to expect on Canvass Day on October 15, such
as provisional ballots, declaring the official results and possible run-off request for Erwin.
The Board closed the One -stop machine with the 1 Absentee by mail ballot included and signed
the tapes. The results will be released at 7:30 pm.
With no other business to discuss Mr. Powell moved to Adjourn. Mr. Spears seconded. The
meeting was adjourned at 5:45pm.
The next meeting of the Board is an absentee meeting on October 15, 2013 10:30 a.m. followed
by the Canvass at 11:00 a.m.
After the meeting the Board stayed at the Board of Elections office until the polls closed and
results were released. No business was discussed.
