MEETING MINUTES
October 30, 2012
5:00 p.m.
Present were Chairman Walter Massey, Secretary James Currin, and member Louise Taylor.
Also present was Ted Halstead, Elections Director.
Chairman Massey called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m.
Business:
Mr. Currin moved to approve the minutes from the October 23 meeting. Mrs. Taylor seconded.
The motion was approved unanimously.
Chairman Massey, Mr. Currin and Mrs. Taylor reviewed and approved the receipt of all absentee
ballots to date.
Mr. Halstead reported that early voting was proceeding well, with a wait exceeding 30 minutes
only at the Western Harnett High School on Oct. 27, where some voters waited about an hour.
Mr. Currin suggested that it would be useful to have more booths and fewer tables, and the other
Board members agreed.
Chairman Massey noted that it would be useful to have more voting booths at Western Harnett
High School to help speed voting, and the other Board members agreed.
Mr. Halstead agreed to implement both suggestions.
Chairman Massey, Mr. Currin and Mrs. Taylor opened absentee ballots received to date, and
supervised the reading of ballots that had been flattened over the previous week to remove
creases preventing readability by the M100 election machine.
The next meeting of the Board will be on November 6, 2012, at 2:00 p.m.
Chairman Massey moved to adjourn. Mrs. Taylor seconded. The motion was approved
unanimously.
The meeting was adjourned at 6:30 p.m.
