HCBOE Board Meeting Minutes - May 1, 2012 - Regular MeetingHARNETT COUNTY BOARD OF ELECTIONS MEETING MINUTES May 1, 2012 5:00 p.m. Present were Chairman Walter Massey, Secretary James Currin and Member Louise Taylor. Also present was Ted Halstead, Elections Director. Chairman Massey called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m. Business: Mr. Currin moved to approve the minutes from the April 24 meeting. Mrs. Taylor seconded. The motion was approved unanimously. Mr. Massey, Mr. Currin and Mrs. Taylor reviewed and approved the receipt of all absentee ballots to date. Mr. Halstead reported that he had reviewed Transylvania's BOE site hri ://trans lvaniaelgctions.or 1 and agrees that it can serve as a model for improvements to our site. Mr. Halstead reported that Google's search engine now gives the correct address for the BOE office in Lillington, after he contacted Google. Mr. Halstead reported that the Central Harnett polling place at the Governmental Complex Commons Area was ready for use, in spite of a water main break that had recently affected other parts of the building. Mr. Currin suggested that buses at the Coats Elementary School should be asked to park elsewhere on the day of the primary. Mr. Halstead agreed to follow up with the school. Mr. Currie noted that additional directional signs would be useful for polling places. Mr. Halstead agreed to provide them. Mr. Currin suggested that it would be useful to designate an emergency polling place. Mr. Halstead agreed, and asked the Board to consider the BOE headquarters as a possible emergency location. Mrs. Taylor reported that a poll worker had agreed with a voter's comment on an issue in the primary ballot, and that she had subsequently received a complaint from another voter who had overheard the incident. Mr. Halstead reported that the poll worker concerned had been relieved of his duties during one -stop voting. Mr. Halstead also noted that the importance of avoiding any appearance of favoring a side of any issue or candidate on the ballot would be emphasized to chief judges when he administered their oath of office, and that chief judges would be instructed to do the same when they administered the oath to poll workers. The next meeting of the Board will be on May 8, 2012, at 2:00p.m. Mr. Currin moved to adjourn. Mrs. Taylor seconded. The meeting was adjourned at 6:05 p.m.
