HomeMy WebLinkAboutHCBOE Board Meeting Minutes - January 6, 2012 - Regular MeetingHARNETT COUNTY BOARD OF ELECTIONS SPECIAL MEETING MINUTES January 6, 2012 1:45 p.m. Present were Chairman Walter Massey, Secretary James Currin and Member Louise Taylor. Also present was Claire Jones, Interim Director. Chairman Massey called the meeting to order at 1:45 p.m. Business: The Board met to review and vote on a resolution expressing appreciation to Sherre Toler for her service to Harnett County as the Elections Director. Mr. Currin moved to approve the resolution, attached hereto and incorporated herein by this reference. Mrs. Taylor seconded. Approved without dissent. The next meeting of the Board will be its regular monthly meeting that was move to January 18, 2012 at 11:30 a.m. Mr. Currin moved to adjourn. Mrs. Taylor seconded. The meeting was adjourned at 1:55 p.m. Harnett County Board of Elections Lillington, NC 27546 A resolution by the Harnett County Board of Elections expressing appreciation for the dedicated and effective service of Ms. Sherre Toler to the citizens of Harnett County in her role as Director of Elections from May 8, 2000, to January 3, 2012 Whereas Ms. Toler has made it her goal to ensure that every polling place in the county is completely accessible to handicapped voters and has succeeded in that effort; Whereas she understands that an enterprise works best as a team and has worked to ensure that every member of her administrative staff has completed the training to be certified by the State Board of Elections; Whereas she has taken innovative steps to improve poll worker training, using problems from past elections to strengthen subsequent training sessions in an effort to ensure that every ballot handed out can be accounted for, that every voter is treated courteously and fairly, that eligible voters are given the correct ballot, and that voters who do not appear on the roll for a precinct are given the choice of going to the correct polling place or voting a provisional ballot; Whereas she recognizes the importance of accurate and up-to-date voter records and has led her staff in reducing the number of voter records with incomplete or inaccurate information from over 15,000 when she took office to fewer than 200 today; Whereas she has found creative ways to contain the costs of her office, ways that in no way imperil the integrity of the election process or diminish service to voters; Now therefore be it resolved, with full approval and adoption by the Board of Elections, to express appreciation and gratitude to Ms. Sherre Toler for her leadership and service to the citizens of Harnett County.
