HomeMy WebLinkAboutHCBOE Board Meeting Minutes - April 24, 2012 - Regular MeetingHARNETT COUNTY BOARD OF ELECTIONS MEETING MINUTES April 24, 2012 5:00 p.m. Present were Chairman Walter Massey, Secretary James Currin and Member Louise Taylor. Also present was Ted Halstead, Elections Director. Chairman Massey called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m. Business: Mr. Currie moved to approve the minutes from the April 17 meeting. Mrs. Taylor seconded. The motion was approved unanimously. Mr. Massey, Mr. Currin and Mrs. Taylor reviewed and approved the receipt of all absentee ballots to date. Mr. Massey pointed out the utility and functionality of Transylvania's BOE site http://transylvaniaelections.orl and suggested that it would be worth considering it as a model. Mr. Halstead agreed to review it for possible improvements to our site. Mrs. Taylor pointed out that Google's search engine gives the wrong address for the BOE office in Lillington. Mr. Halstead agreed to correct this by contacting Google. Mr. Massey suggested that directional signs to the BOE office would be useful. Mr. Halstead agreed to follow up with appropriate county offices. Mr. Halstead reported that the extra poll worker training session requested by board members had been completed, resulting in the training of four additional poll workers. Mr. Massey noted he had visited one -stop sites, and that extra power strips and tape to secure power cords would be useful. Mr. Halstead agreed to provide them. Mr. Massey pointed out the need to record final names in line at the time of poll closing. Mr. Halstead agreed to instruct chief judges to do so. Mrs. Taylor circulated the draft of a letter to the editor of the Daily Record on early voting and voting in the May 8 primary. Mr. Currin moved to approve having the letter sent to the Daily Record from the entire Board. Mrs. Taylor seconded. The motion was approved unanimously. Mr. Currin noted the importance of monitoring poll worker numbers to ensure they properly match election workload. Mr. Halstead agreed. The next meeting of the Board will be on May 1, 2012, at 5:00p.m. Mr. Currin moved to adjourn. Mrs. Taylor seconded.
