SPECIAL MEETING MINUTES
August 23, 2011
12:00 Noon
Present were Chairman Walter Massey, Secretary James Currin and Member Louise Taylor.
Also present was Lola Coats -Stephenson and Sherre Toler, Director.
Chairman Massey called the meeting to order at 12:00 noon.
Minutes:
Mr. Currin moved to approve the minutes of July 6, 2011. Ms. Taylor seconded. Approved
without dissent.
Business:
The Board noted that the meeting scheduled for August 16, 2011 was cancelled due to lack of a
quorum.
Ms. Toler advised that she received some names from the Democratic Parry Chair after the
deadline. Those names were added to the list of poll workers. Others who have worked in the
past were contacted and some declined due to the negative comments from a member of the
citizenry made about poll workers in the newspaper during the 2010 general election.
Ms. Taylor moved to approve the list of poll workers submitted by Ms. Toler, with several
positions currently being vacant. Mr. Currin seconded. Approved without dissent. Ms. Toler
was advised to continue to try to find poll workers for the vacant positions.
Ms. Toler and the Board discussed the open house scheduled for August 30, 2011.
Ms. Toler provided the Board with the agenda for the September conference in Chapel Hill.
Poll worker training for Dunn and Erwin will be held on September 13, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. at the
Common's Area.
The next meeting of the Board will be its regular and absentee meeting on September 20, 2011 at
5:00 p.m.
Ms. Taylor moved to adjourn. Mr. Currin seconded. The meeting was adjourned at 12:50 p.m.
