REGULAR MEETING MINUTES
OCTOBER 12, 2010
5:00 P.M.
Present were Chairman Walter Massey, Secretary James Currin and Member Louise Taylor.
Also present was Sherre Toler, Director.
Chairman Massey called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m.
Minutes:
Mr. Currin moved to approve the minutes of September 7, 2010. Ms. Taylor seconded.
Approved without dissent.
Business:
Ms. Toler advised the Board that the voter registration drive at the high schools was very
successful. 305 registrations were received and 15 student election assistants had signed up so
far.
Ms. Toler advised that the county commissioners were considering moving the board of
Elections office to the old public utilities building. After discussion, Ms. Taylor moved to
endorse the relocation. Mr. Currin seconded. Approved without dissent.
Ms. Toler informed the Board that she would be meeting with the parry chairs to discuss any
election issues, observers, etc.
The Board reviewed the absentee ballot poll book. Mr. Currin moved to approve the list,
attached hereto and incorporated herein by this reference. Ms. Taylor seconded. Approved
without dissent. Ms. Toler also advised that 68 ballots had been returned as undeliverable and a
total of 569 had been mailed out to date.
Ms. Toler reviewed the IRV information received from Mr. Bartlett at the district meeting
including dates for possible counting to begin on November 15, 2010 with 5 days to complete
the process. Bi partisan teams of 2 should sort the ballots, run each column through the machine
and record the totals. The results from columns 2 and 3. will then be added together and
submitted to the State Board. Mr. Bartlett also discussed the voting machine tapes which contain
columns 2 and 3 and indicated instructions would follow regarding the disclosure of those
results. Ms. Toler suggested that poll workers be paid approximately $100.00 for counting the
IRV votes, subject to a review of the amount of time it takes to complete the process. The Board
agreed.
Ms. Toler advised the Board that she ordered 11 x 17 laminated posters containing the IRV
information.
The next meeting of the board will be October 19, 2010 at 5:00 p.m., followed by the poll worker
training from 5:30 — 9:00 p.m.
Mr. Currin moved to adjourn. Ms. Taylor seconded. The meeting was adjourned at 5:35 p.m.
