HomeMy WebLinkAboutHCBOE Board Meeting Minutes - November 17 and 18, 2010 - Recount Meeting - CopyHARNETT COUNTY BOARD OF ELECTIONS RECOUNT MEETING MINUTES NOVEMBER 17 and 18, 2010 9:00 A.M. Present were Chairman Walter Massey, Secretary James Currin and Member Louise Taylor. Also present was Sherre Toler, Director. Various observers, legal counsel for the candidates, members of the media and poll workers were also present. Chairman Massey called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m. Business: After the Board thanked everyone for attending, Ms. Toler instructed the parties as to procedures for the recount. Each machine had four poll workers, 2 Democrats and 2 Republicans. The ballots were inserted into the machine and the tapes run when complete. Each group began putting ballots into the machines as directed. As each group finished, results of the tapes were compared to Election Day returns and announced to all present. The Board recessed for lunch from 12:30 to 1:15 at which time the recount continued. At 4:00 p.m. the Board recessed until 9:00 a.m. on November 18, 2010. Ballots and M100 cards were secured and taken back to the office until the following morning. November 18, 2010, the Board reconvened. Each group resumed the recount. Results were compared and announced. At approximately 10:00 a.m., it was determined that outstack ballots from Western Harnett one stop may have been left at the office. One member of each party from the Board as well as a representative from each campaign, the Director and staff, and other interested observers traveled to the office. The 7 ballots were located, sealed in an envelope and taken to the conference room where they were added to the other ballots. At approximately 4:00 p.m. the recount was complete. The Board recessed to the Board of Elections Office where the results were printed. A recount canvass report was prepared and signed by the Board. Ms. Taylor moved to adjourn. Mr. Currin seconded.
