HCBOE-January 6, 2009-Regular MeetingHARNETT COUNTY BOARD OF ELECTIONS REGULAR MEETING MINUTES January 6, 2009 12:00 p.m. Present were Secretary Walt Titchener and Member Walter Massey. Also present was Sherre Toler, Director. Mr. Massey called the meeting to order at 12:05 p.m. Minutes: The Board reviewed the minutes from previous meetings. Mr. Titchener moved to approve the minutes of December 2, 2008. Mr. Massey seconded. Approved without dissent. New Business: The Board discussed the poll worker appreciation scheduled for January 13, 2009 from. 4- 7 p.m. It was determined that the plaque would be presented to the Randall family at approximately 5:30 p.m. Ms. Toler advised the Board that there is a meeting in Dare County in April but due to budgetary concerns countywide she is hesitant to attend. The Board discussed the matter and determined that staff should attend the State Board training. Ms. Toler advised that she discovered 2 individuals who are convicted felons who voted in the November election. She further advised that she had discussed this with the State Board investigator who recommended a letter be sent to the District Attorney who could then decide what action to take if any. Mr. Titchener moved to send the information to the DA. Mr. Massey seconded. Approved without dissent. Ms. Toler advised that she would be speaking to the Democratic Men's Club at Howards Barbecue tonight at 7:00 p.m. Ms. Toler advised that there was a personnel matter that needed to be discussed. Mr. Titchener moved to go into closed session at 12:25. Mr. Massey seconded. Approved without dissent. At 12:50 the Board returned to general session. There was no action taken during the closed session. The Board directed Ms. Toler to draft a resolution in honor of Mr. Randall to also be presented at the poll worker appreciation dinner. The next meeting of the Board will be February 3, 2009 at 12:00 p.m. Mr. Titchener made a motion to adjourn. Mr. Massey seconded.
