REGULAR MEETING MINUTES
August 4, 2009
11:00 a.m.
Present were Chairman Walter Massey, Member Louise Taylor and new member, James Currin
Also present was Sherre Toler, Director.
Dianne Hatley, Harnett County Clerk of Court, members of the media and general public were
also in attendance.
Chairman Massey called the meeting to order at 11:00 a.m.
New Business:
Ms. Hatley administered the oath of office to all three board members.
Ms. Taylor moved to nominate Walter Massey as Chair. Mr. Currin seconded. Approved
without dissent.
Ms. Taylor moved to nominate Mr. Currin as secretary. Mr. Massey seconded. Approved
without dissent.
After discussion, the Board agreed to set the regular meeting date and time as the first Tuesday in
the month at 3:00 p.m.
Ms. Toler advised the Board that the budget will be voted on next Tuesday. Ms. Taylor
requested that Ms. Toler send a copy of the recommend budget to the Board members.
Mr. Currin asked about poll workers and the parties' recruitment efforts. Ms. Toler explained
that poll worker recruitment remains a challenge.
A member of the public commented that poll workers should be better trained. Mr. Massey
explained the training efforts. Ms. Toler also advised that a training manual is provided to each
worker as well as to the party chairs.
The next meeting of the board will be its special meeting at 3:00 p.m. on August 18, 2009 to
appoint poll workers.
Ms. Taylor moved to adjourn. Mr. Currin seconded. The meeting was adjourned at 12:30 p.m.
