HomeMy WebLinkAboutHCBOE-August 18, 2009-Regular MeetingHARNETT COUNTY BOARD OF ELECTIONS REGULAR MEETING MINUTES August 18, 2009 3:00 p.m. Present were Chairman Walter Massey, Secretary James Currin and Member Louise Taylor. Also present was Sherre Toler, Director. Chairman Massey called the meeting to order at 3:05 p.m. Minutes: Ms. Taylor moved to approve the minutes of June 23, 2009, June 30, 2009. Mr. Massey seconded. Approved without dissent. Ms. Taylor move to approve the minutes of August 4, 2009. Mr. Currin seconded. Approved without dissent. New Business: Ms. Toler advised the Board that she did not receive any names of poll workers from the Republican Party. She additionally advised that she did not receive enough names of poll workers from the Democratic Party. After discussion, the Board directed Ms. Toler to contact previous poll workers to determine if they are still willing to serve. Mr. Currin further asked Ms. Toler to try wherever possible to ensure that Chief Judges and Judges reside in the precinct where they are appointed. Mr. Currin made a motion to table the selection of poll workers until the meeting on September 22, 2009. Ms. Taylor seconded. Approved without dissent. Ms. Toler advised the she did need to select municipal poll workers prior to September 22, 2009. Ms. Taylor moved to allow Ms. Toler to select poll workers for the municipal elections. Mr. Currin seconded. Approved without dissent. As the new board has been appointed, Ms. Toler advised that a new request for an exception to combine Neills Creek and Lillington precincts for the municipal election would need to be made. Ms. Taylor moved to direct Ms. Toler to request an exception. Mr. Currin seconded. Approved without dissent. The Board discussed membership in the Elections Board Association and reached a consensus that the county should continue paying the dues for the board members. Ms. Toler provided the Board with a list of important dates detailing all the meetings. As the Board will be attending a conference on September 1 and 2, the Board cannot hold its regularly scheduled meeting on September 1, 2009. Ms. Taylor moved to reschedule the Board's regular meeting to September 22, 2009 at 5:00 p.m. Ms. Taylor also moved to consolidate the October 6, 2009 regular meeting scheduled for 3:00 p.m. with the absentee meeting scheduled for October 6 at 5:00 p.m. and to consolidate the November 3, 2009 regular meeting scheduled for 3:00 p.m. with the absentee meeting scheduled for November 3, 2009 at 5:00 p.m. Mr. Currin seconded. Approved without dissent. The next meeting of the board will be an absentee meeting at 5:00 p.m. on September 15, 2009. Ms. Taylor moved to adjourn. Mr. Currin seconded.
