HCBOE-August 13, 2006-Regular MeetingHARNETT COUNTY BOARD OF ELECTIONS REGULAR MEETING MINUTES August 13, 2006 3:00 p.m. Present were William Randall, Chairman and Member Walter Massey. Secretary Roy Tew was unable to attend. Sherre Toler, Director was also present. Mr. Randall called the meeting to order at 3:05 p.m. Minutes: Mr. Massey moved to approve the minutes from July 11, 2006. Mr. Randall seconded. Approved without dissent. Old Business: Ms. Toler provided the board members with conference materials for the Asheville Conference, including agendas and maps. New Business: Ms. Toler advised that she met with Jarvis Bynum, the new Democratic Party chair regarding recruitment of poll workers and 3 vacant Chief Judge spots. Ms. Toler advised that she had contacted the person in charge of the Agriculture Building conference room and tentatively reserved the room for October 10, October 12, October 17, October 19 and October 24 from 6-9 p.m. for poll worker training. After discussion, the Board agreed that training should be held on those dates. Mr. Massey moved to change the time of the regular board meeting on October 10, 2006 from 3:00 p.m. to the absentee meeting time of 5:00 p.m. on that date. Mr. Randall seconded. Approved without dissent. Ms. Toler advised that each September the Board of Elections Office is required to conduct a voter registration drive. She indicated that the only county event scheduled in September is the Angier Crepe Myrtle festival. The Chamber of Commerce will not waive the $35.00 fee for the table. After discussion, the Board agreed that the Office should still participate in this event. However, it was advised that there were need to be some promotional items in order to draw people to the booth and directed Ms. Toler to purchase something appropriate in order to do so. The next meeting of the Board will be its regular monthly meeting on September 12, 2006 at 3:00 p.m. Mr. Massey moved to adjourn. Mr. Randall seconded.
