Minutes 11-17-2020 Image Dunn121 Dunn City Council Imagine Dunn Strategic Vision Plan Meeting Tuesday, November 17, 2020 4:30 p.m., Dunn Community Center PRESENT: Mayor William P. Elmore Jr., Council Members J. Wesley Sills, April Gaulden, Frank McLean, and Dr. David L. Bradham. Not in attendance: Mayor Pro Tern Chuck Turnage and Council Member Billy Tart. Also present: NC Representative Howard Penny, Mark Johnson - Chairman Harnett County Board of Commissioners, Harnett County Commissioner Brooks Matthews, City Attorney Tilghman Pope, Planning Director George Adler and City Clerk Tammy Williams. As part of the Imagine Dunn Vision Strategic Plan, a round table meeting with elected officials was scheduled. To comply with N.C.G.S § 143-318.10. and § 143-318.12., Public Notice was provided and the meeting was open to the public. Notice, relating to the Imagine Dunn meeting, is incorporated into these minutes as Attachment #1. Aaron Arnett, Consultant with Arnett Muldrow & Associates, facilitated the round table discussion. Arnett explained that the goal is to develop a 10-year strategic plan for the Dunn community, which expands beyond the city limits. He reviewed the special circumstances that the Dunn Vision Group has faced related to Covid- 19 and reported that 830 Imagine Dunn surveys have been completed to -date. Discussions were held concerning Economic Development, Quality of Life and the importance of Downtown Dunn's success. Economic Development was a main focus of the conversation: working regionally, doing a better job telling Dunn's story, developing a higher tech and more diverse workforce with housing to support specialized workforce recruitment, focus on small business growth, growing businesses to include night life, specialty restaurants, and developing additional cultural resources. Mayor Elmore commented that he felt the timing of this visioning process was perfect for the city of Dunn.
