04051954310 April 5th. 1954 The Board of County Commissioners of Harnett County met in regular session on Monday April 5th. 1954, with all members present. The Clerk to Board was also present. -The report of Robert Morgan, Clerk Superior Court, was approved and ordered filed. The report of Inez Harrington, Register of Deeds, was approved and ordered filed. . The report of D. P. Ray, Jr., Tax Collector, was approved and ordered filed. The report of L. B. McLean, Veteran Service Officer, was approved and ordered filed. !i'he report of Roy G@dwin, Electrical Inspector, was approved and ordered filed. The,report of B. H. Sellars, Electrical Inspector, was approved and ordered filed. Commissioner Lasater moved, seconded by Commissioner Byrd, that the Harnett County Courthouse be painted with two coats of white paint and_the roof painted Ted. Motion carried. The Board appointed Cecil Wilkins, Lillington R. 1, Neill's Creek Township, to serve as a member of the Artificial Breeding Association of Harnett County, upon the recommendation of County Agent, C. R. Ammons, that the Board appoint a person to serve in this capacity. The Board ordered that 'James E. Sease, Box 193, Erwin, Duke Township, be relieved of Poll Tax for the year 1954 on account of being a permanently disabled World War Veteran. The Committee composed of J. A. McLeod, Leon McDonald and Malcolm Fowler which have been appointed by the Board of Commissioners to complete plans for the Float from Harnett County to be used in the Bicentenial celebration of Cumberland County, appeared before the Board and recommended that the plans be dropped. Thereupon Commissioner Byrd seconded by Commissioner Ingram moved that the plans be dropped. Motion carried. The following road petitions were approved as follows: 1. 1'o construct and maintain that certain road in Grove township leading from the residence of Alex -Thomas on the Johnston and Harnett County line, to Black River Grove Church and known as the Jonah Johnson road, a distance of 1 -3/10 miles (petition given to Com. Lasater) 2. To take over, Township, which runs N. C. Highway # 210 a distance of 1-5/10 drain, grade, and maintain that road in Stewart's Creek from McLean's Chapel Church to the public road leading from to U. S. Highway # 15 by the way of Bill Wicker's residence, miles (petition given to Com. Byrd) 3. To black -top that road in Anderson Creek Township, which runs from Parker's Store near Anderson Creek School on Highway # 210 to Godfrey's store and known as the Anderson Creek to Overhills road, a distance of 32 miles. (petition given to Com. Byrd) 4. To widen and drain water from the property owners on that certain road in Averasboro 'Township, which runs from the Dunn -Erwin Highway to Pleasant Grove Church and known as the Wonder Town road, a distance of 1* rr¢niles. (Petition mailed to state Highway Commission, Fayetteville) 5. To build and maintain that road in Hector's Creek Township, which runs from the farm of Mrs. D. B. Andrews through W. J. Senter's to- William Parrish farm, Tyson Matthews farm, Charlie Andrews farm, to the nearest improved dirt road. This road has no name because only a path and the distance if 3/4 miles. That certain roadin Anderson Creek 'Township which runs from Ilursery Road to Spout Springs community and is known as the Cameron road, a distance of 4 miles to be pulled up,and gravelled. (placed in file) 311 7. To construct and maintain a gravel top road beginning on the south side of State Highway No. 40 at a point near the road leading North from the said Highway by Glenn Morris place and leading about south to the Oakdale School and Lrwin road, a distance of 2 miles. (petition filed) The board ordered the County Offices to be closed Saturday morning April 17th., and Monday April 19th., for the Easter Holidays.
