The Board of Commissioners met in regular session on Monday Oct. lst. 1951 with
L. A. Tart, Chairman, Worth Lee Byrd, R. L. Pate and C. G. Fields present, B. P.
Ingram was absent on account of illness. Also present were W. A. Johnson, County
Attorney, Herbert D. Carson, Auditor, and the Clerk to the Board.
The report of Robert B. Morgan C. S. C. .for the month of September was-approved
and ordered filed.
The report of Inez Harrington, Register of Deeds was approved and ordered filed.
The report of D. P. Ray, Jr. Tax Collector was approved and ordered filed.
The report of L. B. McLean, Veteran Service Officer was approved and ordered
filed.
The report of Grand Jury for September term 1951 was read and placed on file.
Commissioner Fields moved seconded by Com. Pate that H. Tally Dupree, B. R.
Township be relieved of late listing penalty in amount of $2.67 for reason that such
penalty aocured on account of error by the list taker. Motion carried.
-Upon motion of C. G. Fields seconded by Worth Lee Byrd the following resolution
was passed,
Be it resolved that parcel of land acquired by Harnett County under Judgment #
S -D # 2539 -A- 1566 be sold to Laudie S. Holder for the amount of $133.33 cash.
The Chairman of Board is hereby directed to execute deed and the Clerk to Board
will attest same.
It is ordered that Gordon L. Townsend, Aversboro Township, be relieved of late
listing penalty in amount of $2.03 for reason of military service at the time of
listing.
Worth Lee Byrd moved seconded by C. G. Fields that the following resolution be
passed.
WHEREAS, it has been called to our attention that the certain road in Anderson
Creek Township, Harnett County running from N. C. Highway No 210 to the E. W.
Grannis farm, a distance of approximately 3.2 miles is presently not a part of the
State Highway system and is in such poor condition that it is unable only in dry
weather; and
WHEREAS, the condition of such road is so poor that it is impossible to operate
school buses over it with the result that approximately 15 school children are being
required to walk more than the distance required by law;
WHEREAS, we feel that the condition of such road and the resulting hardship on
the school children and families residing along and upon said redd constitute an
emergency which requires immediate attention;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE Board of Commissioners of Harnett County
that the condition of such road be and the same is hereby declared to be an emer-
gency and the North Carolina Highway and Public Works Commission is requested to
take immediate action to improve such road, sufficiently to enable school buses
to operate over and upon it, and further, to add such road to the State Highway Sys-
tem and maintain the same;
AND IT IS FURTHER ORDERED That a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Hon-
orable George S. Coble, Commissioner of the Sixth Highway Division with the road
petition which reads as follows;
IN ANDERSON CREEK TOWNSHIP, ;that certain road which runs from Highway # 210 to
what is known as the E. W. Gtannis farm a distance of 3.2 miles.
