01021961446 JANUARY 2nd, 1961 The Board of Commissioners met in regular session on Monday. January 2nd. 1961 at 10:00 A.M. with all members present. The County Attorney. the Auditor and the Clerk to the Board were also present. The Following Reports Were Approved And Filed: Elizabeth F. Matthews Kyle Harrington Inez Harrington D P Ray, Jr. L. B. McLean Ray Thomas B F Sellers W H Stewart Clerk Superior Court Clerk Recorders Court Register of Deeds Tax Collector Veterans Service Officer Dog Warden Electrical Inspector Sheriff Mrs. W. E. (Bill) Salmon appeared before theBoard in the interest of damage to her, an injury, in a fall at Courthouse. The Board considered her request but no action was taken. Commissioner Cameron moved, seconded by Commissioner Barefoot that Ray Thomas be and he is hereby appointed Dog Warden for a term of 1 year ending December 1st, 1961. Motion carried. Commissioner Cameron moved. seconded by Commissioner Barefoot, that.the Retirement Fund for County employees become effective as of July 1st, 1961, Motion carried. Commissioner Byrd moved. seconded by Commissioner Barefoot, that the following schedule for 1061 Holidays be set up as follows and that this schedule be printed on the .county calendar. Monday, September 4 November 23 0hristmas Holidays Easter Monday Memorial Day Independence Day Labor Day Thanksgiving Day Three work days with Christmas Day being considered the middle work Day; That is, if it falls on Wednesday. the Holidays would be Tuesday. Buckhorn Duke 4E48 The Board appointed a committee consisting of Commissioner Byrd, Commissioner, Barefoot and Commissioner Cameron to work with the Welfare Department in working out a plat of the lot and the plans for the new welfare building and report back to the Board of Commissioners at the next meeting. The Board recessed for the noon hour at which time the Woodmen of the World presented and raised a Flag on the Courthouse in an impressive ceremony conducted by the members of the Dunn Camp which was accepted for the county by L. A. Tart, Chairman of the Board of Commissioners. TheBoard unanimously approved the salary of $70.00 per week for Thomas H. Glasby and $50.00 per week for Thomas James as janitors in the courthouse. This date is the day set aside for the Open House of the courthouse inspection and visitors were welcomed and escorted through the courthotse during the day.
