Board of Commissioners met in regular session on Monday, August 5th.,
A.M. with all members present, with the exception of Commissioner Joe

The following reports were approved and filed.
Elizabeth F. Matthews, Clerk SuperiorCourt,
D. P. Ray, Tax Collector,
Inez Harrington, Register of Deeds,
B. H. Sellars and Roy Godwin, Electrical Inspectors,
L. B. McLean, Veteran Service Officer,
Earl H. Wells, County Dog Warden,
Kyle Harrington, Recorders Court Clerk,
Commissioner Cameron moved, seconded by Commissioner Pleasant, that J. E.
Williams be and he is hereby appointed delinquent Tax Collector for Harnett
County at a salary of S300.00, per month, and $125.00, travel expense, Beginning
September lst. 1957 and ending June 30th. 1958, upon his presentation of a bond
in the amount of $5000.00. Motion carried.
Upon Motion of Commissioner Womble, seconded by Commissioner Pleasant the
Board voted unanimously to provide an office for the State Probation Officer
in the leased apace in the Town Hall.
Upon request of Elizabeth F. Matthews, Clerk SuperiorCourt, the board
ordered that an electric typewriter be purchased for the Clerk of Court office.
The board ordered that county Offices be closed on Monday September 2nd,.
for Labor Day and that theFBoard hold its regular meeting on- Tuesday September
3rd. at 10:00 A. M.
The Following Road Petitions were approved:
(1) To hard surface or sand gravel the roads or streets at Twin Lakes,
Anderson Creek Twosnhip.
(Petition given Mrs. L. B. Fant, Mrs. Esther Eldridge for
presentation)
(2) To gravel that road in Duke Township which runs from John Lucas
old place to Ches Smith residence.
(Petition given to John W. Suggs for presentation),
(3) To grade and gravel that road in Averasboro Township which runs from
301 south at Alphin Bros. Store to a dead end road a distance of 500 'yards.
(Petition mailed to Mr.Whitfield, State Highway office, Fayetteville)
(4) To pull up and . grade that road in Upper Little River Township, that
road which intersects with the Norrington road and runs north on the
Norrington Road approximately 2 miles then left going west approximately
12 miles then right and north 1 mile to be improved.
