03071966442 MARCH 7th. 1966 The Board of Commissioners met in regular session on Monday, March 7th. at 9:00 A.M., with all members present, Also present were the County Attorney, the Auditor and the Clerk to the Board. Commissioner Mixon read the Minutes of the February meeting which were approved. Chairman Brook called tee meeting to order and offered the invocation. The following reports were presented and filed. Stewart Commissioner Womble moved, seconded by Commissioner O'Quinn, that State Highway Commission be requested to improve that road which runs from Highway 210 to the Dog Pound a distance of 150 to 200 feet En Anderson Creek Township Motion carried Vernon Porter, Consultant of Economic Opportunity Program, gave a report of the courses of study in the Maple Grove School and plans for extension in the trade schools to meet the demands of the enrollment. A. J. Stephenson and Danny Watkins, representatives of Carolina Home Life Insurance Company, appeared before the Board and discussed Group Insurance for County employees. W. K. Sexton, Lamar Simmons and Ray Edwards, representing the Southern National Bank in Lillington, appeared before the Board and requested more con- sideration of this bank for Depository of Harnett County. Public Official Bond #,667165 with E. J. Whaley, Dunn, N C., as Principal in the amount of $1000.00 as Deputy Sheriff was approved and filed with Clerk Superior Court. Commissioner Womble moved, second @d by Commissioner Cotton, that the following named be and are hereby appointed to serve on the Cape Fear Water Commission at the pleasure of the Board. R E S O L U T I O N Whereas the fixed Assets of Harnett County remain on the Books at the same figure since the year 1940, except for minor changes, the figures shown on the county books appear to be out of date. And Whereas the amounts are not in line with present day and are showing the county with assets of $430,000.00 in bridges, with said assets belonging to the State of North it appears that the fixed assets of Harnett County should corrected to be more in line with present day values. And whereas the property of Harnett County was revalued d reassement of 1963 at present day values. Colonel David, Alexander, Director of Harnett Agri - Business Committee appeared before the Board and discussed a location for the class room for the Man Power Program to promote industries which will come into the towns of Harnett County. Chairman Brook called the meeting to order and presided. Commissioner Cotton made a motion, seconded by Commissioner O'Quinn that a resolution after a discussionjbe adopted. Prior to the vote on the resolution Commissioner O'Quinn then withdrew his second to the motion and the resolution failed to pass for the lack of a second. The Meeting Recessed. Chairman The Board of Harnett County Commissioners met jointly with the Lee County Board of Commissioners at Palomino Restaurant in Lee County for a dinner meeting on March 30th. at 8:00 P.M. M. H. Brock, Chairman of Harnett County Commissioners presided at the meeting which. was 100 % in attendance from both Boards. The purpose of the meeting was for discussion on Mental Health, improvement of Highway 421, Cape Fear Water Basin, Federal appropriation to build New Hope Dam, and cooperation:in local government with the increasing Federal Programs of all kinds.
