The Board of Commissioners met in regular session on Monday May 4th. at
10 :00 A. M. with all members present. Also present were the County Attorney,
the Auditor and the Clerk to the Board.
Alex Cameron, Chairman, called the meeting to order and introduced Rev.
Carlos Womack, Minister of Divine Methodist Church, Dunn, who gave the invocation.

Be it resolved that the property listed to C. L. Wade and consisting of ],Q0
acres in Barbecue Township and foreclosed for taxes under S.D. # 3057/ge L6±d
to Mrs. Mary Ann Newkirk for the sum of $286.80 which amount will take care of
taxes through year 1963, and the Chairman of the Board will execute a deed to
Mrs. Mary Ann Newkirk and the Clerk to the Board will attest same.
The Board ordered that Willie F. Messer, 300 East "D" Street, Erwin be re-
funded $16.39 for taxes on house and lot listed in error for year 1963.
The Board ordered that Hoover 0. Johnson Rt. 3 Dunn, N C. be refunded $16.90
for tax on a 1962 Chevrolet Pickup truck double listed to him and Paul Johnson
heirs for year 1963.
Commissioner Byrd moved seconded by Commissioner Barefoot, that N. C. State
Highway Commission Seoondary Road Plan for year 1964 -65 of Harnett County was
approved as follows:

The Board ordered that the road # 1218 be named and known as the Munn Road.
The Board ordered that the Road # 1226 be named as fie Harrington Road.
The Board ordered that old 421 on SR # 1291 be named Summerville - Mamers Road.
The Board ordered that Road # 1540 be named Flowers Road.
Commissioner Byrd moved, seconded by Commissioner Byerly,that the. Board
approve the project of improving N. C. Highway 42 thru Harnett County as re-
quested by R. B. Nelson, Robinsonville, N. C.
Motion carried,
Commissioner Barefoot moved, seconded by .Commissioner Byrd, that the minutes
of the Board of Commissioners on January 6th. 1964 be corrected to read that
the salary of Vance Hamilton, Assistant County Agent, be $155.87 as to July
1st. 1964.
Motion carried.
The Board accepted the resignation of Mrs. Etta C. Harrington, Assistant
Home Demonstration Agent effective Si of June lst. 1964.

The Veterans Organizations of Harnett County represented by Belford Coleman,
VFW, Casey Fowler, Commander of Post No. 28 of the American Legion and James
Hall, Commander of Post No. 59 of the American Legion, Alvis Carver, Represent-
ing 40 and 8 of the American Legion and Belvin Strickland, Chairman of the
Veterans Council of Harnett County appeared before the Board and requested the
County to provide for a complete service to the Veterans by establishing a
Service Officer with sufficient personnel to provide adequate service to process
Veterans Claims.
The Board of Education appeared before the Board and presented the School
Budget foT the year 1964 -65.
Robert Stewart, Director of Public Welfare, appeared before the Board
and presented the Welfare !Budget for year 1964 -65.
C. R. Ammons, Harnett County Farm Agent, appeared before the Board and
presented 1964 -65 Budget for Agricultural Extension Service 4.0.e for Harnett
County.
The Board will sit as a Board of Equalization and Review on May llth. at
9:00 A.M.
