08071969Special Meeting:_ August_ 7, 196,9_ n special Meeting i ALL TO ORDER PURPOSE OF MEETING 'PRDER OF BUSINESS ELEPHONE OMMUNICATION e: Anderson reek area OUNTY BUILDING 4DJOURNMENT 32- 3 A special meeting of the Board of County Commissioners convened on Thursday, August 7, 1969 at 7:30 p.m. in the Commissioners' Room, Courthouse, Lillington, North Carolina. Those present were: Messrs. M. H. Brock, Chairman; D. P. Ray, Jr., Vice Chairman; Gilbert Brown Member and C. E. McLamb, Member. Absent, W. J. Cotton, Jr. Also present, Messrs. Gerald Arnold, County Attorney and Herbert D. Carson, Jr., Clerk to the Board. Chairman Brock called the meeting to order at 7:45 p.m. The purpose of the meeting was to hear further discussion of the proposed telephone annexation and to discuss the county building. Item 1. Mr. Billy Wellons of Fayetteville, North Carolina appeared before the Board and presented plans for the development of the Anderson Creek area of the county. Mr. Wellons spoke favoring the annexation of this section under the Fayetteville exchange of the Carolina Telephone and Telegraph Company. Those appearing favoring the action were: Mr. William S. Wellons, 234 Andover Road, Fayetteville, N.C. (Mr. Billy Wellons) Mr. W. A. Johnson, Lillington, North Carolina Mr. T. J. Corbin, Dunn, North Carolina Mr. Charlie Holder, Spring Lake, North Carolina Those appearing opposing the action were: Mr. John Aaron Senter, Lillington, North Carolina Mr. Terrell Shaw, Spring Lake, North Carolina Mr. Johnnie H. Taylor, Rt.1, Spring Lake, North Carolina No action was taken on the above matter. Item 2. Col. John James Croft, Jr. met with the Board and discussed the proposed county building. Also present for this discussion were: Mr. Worth Byrd, member of the Welfare Board and Mr. Fletcher Hubbard, Director of the Welfare Department. After discussion, it was agreed that Mr. Croft would rework the plans for the building and project the cost of building it in three phases. Another meeting with the architect will be held as soon as this work has been completed. Not heretofore listed, but attending this meeting was Mr. E. Harrington McCormick, Lillington, North Carolina.
