He stated that the law required that there must be three times the number of names of jurors as have been the past two years, and that Mrs. Matthews, Clerk of Superior Court, determined from available records that this number would have to be at least 10,500 for Harnett County. He stated that there are 11,189 names, and that discs and 4x6 cards have been prepared for each name as required by law. These names were obtained from the Tax Scrolls aid Voter Registration. These discs are retained in the office of the Clerk of Superior Court and the name cards are kept in the office of the Register of Deeds. He stated that the law provides that these cards be kept under lock and key, and that the necessary metal boxes had not been secured by the Register of Deeds when the cards were turned over to that office. The discs retained in the Clerk of Superior Court's office have a number and when these discs or numbers are drawn they will be given to the Register of Deeds who then will draw the card which corresponds to the number of the disc. There is no specified number of jurors or time set to draw these jurors, but any number can be drawn. There was a question as to whose responsibility it is to draw these discs, and Mr. Henry stated that the Jury Commission would find out about 90 this from Resident Judge Cannady. He further stated that when he turned the cards over to the Register of Deeds he recommended to her that she prepare four copies of the list of jurors drawn each time, to be distributed as follows: one each to the Sheriff's office, Clerk of Superior Court, County Commissioners and Register of Deed's office. Mr. Herbert Carson, County Auditor and Clerk of the Board, stated that the Register of Deeds had assured him that the metal boxes required to file the juror cards hale been ordered. Mr. Carson also asked if it would be necessary in the future to include a list of the jurors drawn in the minutes of the meetings of the County Board of Commissioners. He was informed that this would not be necessary. As a taxpayer, Mr. Henry, commended the Board of Commissioners on the good job they are doing for the taxpayers of Harnett County. Item 3. Mr. Graham Henry presented to the Hoard three bills from Members of the Harnett County Jury Commission as follows: R. G. Henry - 36 days @ $25.00 - $900.00 Fulton Patterson -32 days @ $25.00- $800.00 Mack Reid Hudson -21 days @ $25.00- $525.00 Mr. C. E. Mclamb made a motion that these bills be approved, seconded by Mr. Brown, and the motion carried. Item 4. Chairman Brock, speaking for the entire Board, expressed his appreciation to the Jury Commission for the good job they have done. Item 5. Mr. Frank Lewis, Assistant Civil Defense Director, appeared before the Board and suggested that the Planning Board include in its by -laws and regulations "Air Pollution Control" if agreeable with Planning Board and Board of Commissioners. Mr. Brock stated that the Board would have no objection to this. Meeting adjourned at 9:50. Alt(Zg, d./ Mildred C.
