01111973111 SALARY CHANGE FOR DIRECTOR OF DEV. COMMISSION - Continued- ACTION: Commissioner Cotton moved that the Board allow a 5% salary increase, effective January 1, 1973, to Tony M. Tucker, Director of Harnett Development Commission. Commissioner McLamb seconded the motion and it carried. CLOTHING ALLOWANCE FOR DEPUTIES Commissioner Cotton made a motion to provide a clothing allowance, up to but not exceeding, $150.00 per deputy per year for the officers in the Sheriff's Department; disbursement to be made upon the presentation of an itemized paid account. Commissioner McLamb seconded the motion and it carried unanimously. RE: REQUEST FROM JAMES GOFF TO HIRE DORIS BINDER The following is an extraction of a letter to Mr. James Goff, Chairman of the Extension Department, in regard to his appearance before the Board pertaining to a request to hire Miss Doris Binder: "After a lengthy discussion and after taking many factors under consid- eration, we feel that it would be in the best interest of the county and in the best interest of Miss Binder, that we do not accept her application for employment for this position ". Notification was made to Mr. Goff of the action stated above. The Board authorized Chairman Brock to act for the Board in the canvassing ADJOURNMENT of the votes for the Jan. 9, 1973 election. Brock, Chairman of the Board of Commissioners and Dougald McRae Chairman of the Board of Elections met on January 11, 1973 to canvass the votes of the School Bond Election of January 9, 1973. This was in accordance with the will of the Board of Commissioners as recorded in the minutes of the regular meeting of IINNKMXNX January 2, 1973. Statement of Result of Special Bond Election held in the County of Harnett, North Carolina on January 9, 1973 At a special bond election held through the County of Harnett, North Car- olina on January 9, 1973, 24,603 voters were registered and qualified to vote. At said election 3130 votes were cast for the order authorizing the County of Harnett to contract a debt and in evidence thereof to issue not exceeding $7,000,000 School Building Bonds for the purpose of providing funds, with any other available funds, for erecting addition- al school buildings and other school plant facilities, remodeling, en- larging and reconstructing existing school buildings and other school plant facilities, and acquiring necessary land and equipment therefor, in order to provide additional school facilities in the County of Harnett to maintain the nine months' school term in said County as required by Section 2 of Article IX of the Constitution, and authorizing the levy and collection of a sufficient tax for the payment of the principal of and the interest on said bonds, and 3276 votes were cast against such order, that a majority of the qualified voters of said County who voted thereon at said election voted against said order and that said order was thereby disapproved. Cotton, Jr. /s/ Gilbert Brown Commissioners SPECIAL MEETING OF JANUARY 30, 1973 A called meeting of the Board of Commissioners convened on Tuesday, January 30, 1973 10:00 a.m. in session. All members of the Board were present, also H. D. Carson, Jr., Clerk to the Board. Commissioner Cotton moved that an appointment be extended to Mrs. Mary Helen Jones, for the position of Assistant Home Economics Agent from February 1, 1973 through and until the first Monday in December, 1974. Commissioner Ray seconded the move and it passed. The Board also voted to request Representative Gerald Arnold to introduce a local bil setting the salary of the Register of Deeds for Harnett County at $7,500.00 per annum. The vote was unanimous. The Board went into a work study.session relative to the Harnett County Schools. action was taken during this period.
