A backhoe was used to dig pits for soil evaluation and to precisely locate the lowest existing drainline. The purpose of the investigation was to design a subsurface sewage waste disposal system and 100 % repair area for the existing four - bedroom home that would allow installation of an in- ground swimming pool in the back yard. This lot utilizes a public water supply. All ratings and determinations were - made in accordance with "Laws and Rules for Sewage Treatment and Disposal Systems, 15A NCAC 18A .1900 ".This report represents my professional opinion but does not guarantee or represent permit approval for any lot by the local Health Department. A copy of the Operation Permit was obtained from the Harnett County Department of Public Health. This permit indicates the existing septic system is gravity driven using parallel distribution to 360 linear feet (3 X 120ft) of 25% reduction type drainlines. The drainlines are installed off-contour with step -downs within each line. The proposed pool location will impact the existing septic system. The existing septic system will need to be modified to accommodate the proposed pool and to maintain regulatory setbacks. It is proposed that the initial 60 feet of the three existing drainlines be abandoned and replaced by three new 60 -foot long drainlines. From the existing septic tank, a new supply line will be run along the left property line past the proposed pool to a new distribution box set above the existing system near the midpoint of the top drainline. The distribution box will feed six 60 -foot long drainlines, as shown on the attached Septic System Layout Design. Three proposed drainlines were flagged on nine -foot centers below the existing drainlines. The first proposed drainline (blue pin flags) should be installed off - contour, with the ditch depth at the right side property line starting at 24 inches below surface and shallow to 18 inches below surface near the tree line. The other two proposed drainlines should be installed on contour with ditch depths at 24 inches below surface. The new drainlines would be 25% Soil Science Investigations ® Wetland Delineations, Permitting, and Consulting HAL OWEN & ASSOCIATES, INC. reduction status (EZ Plow) drainlines. The pool basin shall not be within 15 feet of the septic drainlines or distribution box. The repair septic system is proposed as a gravity driven system using parallel distribution to 360 linear feet (4 X 90ft) of 25% reduction type drainlines. The top two drainlines should be installed on contour with trench depths 18 inches below surface. The bottom two lines should be installed off - contour with trench depths starting at 18 inches below surface and deepening to 21 and 23 inches below surface at the terminal end. Although a backhoe pit in the area of the repair system demonstrated gravelly sandy loam materials to greater than 42 inches below surface, a higher application rate was not utilized with these plans. In addition, it appears that one additional drainline ( -80 feet) could be placed between the left hand property line and the pool and about 100 feet of serial distributed drainlines is also available in the front yard. It is recommended that care be taken to preserve the life of your septic system. The septic tank, pump tank, distribution device, and valve boxes should be kept accessible for cleaning and adjustment. Your septic system should be inspected periodically and the septic tank pumped out every 3 to 5 years by a professional contractor. Patch any gullies or depressions that may form over the system immediately, maintain a uniform cover of grass, and direct excess water (such as downspouts) away from the septic field. Practice water conservation in the home, such as promptly repairing leaky fixtures and using washing machines and dishwashers only when .full, to avoid overloading the septic system. Also, avoid disposing of oils, fats, and grease into the septic system because they could clog drainlines and conveyance pipes. A list of other useful suggestions is attached for your use. This report and the attached septic system design information will need to be submitted to the County Health Department for review and the permitting process. I appreciate the opportunity to provide this service and hope to be allowed to assist you again in the future.
