2009/02/02 RESOLUTION HONORING BETTY B SMITHA RESOLUTION TO HONOR BETTY B. SMITH
THAT WHEREAS; Betty B. Smith began her service as Harnett County Tax Administrator on March 1,
2004, after previous experience as the Tax Administrator of Bladen County, N.C.; and
WHEREAS, during :her almost five year tenure as Harnett County Tax Administrator, Betty B. Smith
exhibited a great ability in leading and managing the Harnett County Tax Department as it became'more efficient
and successful in its tax collection 'efforts and more progressive in .establishing a cooperative spirit with the
" taxpaying citizens of Harnett County; that Betty B. Smith's efforts are epitomized by.a steady increase in the tax
collection percentage during her years of service and the, establishment of a customer service center to better• serve
and inform the citizens of Harnett County; and
WHEREAS, in addition to her superb performance in her tax collecting responsibilities, Betty B. Smith'
has "shown a• talent. for managing her department employees in a professional and caring manner thereby earning,,',
their admiration and respect. Furthermore, Betty B. Smith was recognized by her peers at the 2008 annual
statewide meeting of Tax Administrators when she was named Tax Collector of the Year in North Carolina: and .
WHEREAS, Betty B. Smith's many abilities as an exceptional tax administrator has been a great benefit to
Harnett County, and her retirement after nearly 44 years of local' government service has been well earned.
NOW THEREFORE BE.IT RESOLVED, by the Harnett County Commissioners that Betty B. Smith is
hereby commended 'and honored on .behalf of the citizens of Harnett County for her exemplary service, and
contributions to'the development of Harnett County. The Board hereby, expresses its appreciation to Betty B. Smith
for heroutstanding leadership,' expertise and hard work given in her service as Tax Administrator,.'and it further
gives its best wishes to Betty in her retirement.
