The plans have been carefully reviewed by a qualified code enforcement official to examine for full compliance with the North Carolina Fire Prevention Code and all other fire protection regulatory documents. There are some items that were found during the plan review process that need to be addressed before a final inspection of the new facility can be given. These items are outlined and described below. ? 903.3.6 Hose threads. Fire hose threads used in connection with automatic sprinkler systems o shall comply with NFPA 1963 or as otherwise approved, and shall be compatible with fire department hose threads. ? 903.4.2 Alarms. Approved audible devices shall be connected to every automatic sprinkler o system. Such sprinkler water-flow alarm devices shall be activated by water flow equivalent to the flow of a single sprinkler of the smallest orifice size installed in the system. Alarm devices shall be provided on the exterior of the building in an approved location. Where a fire alarm system is installed, actuation of the automatic sprinkler system shall actuate the building fire alarm system ? 506.1 When required. KNOX-BOX Where access to or within a structure or an area is restricted because of o secured openings or where immediate access is necessary for life-saving or fire-fighting purposes, the code official is authorized to require a key box to be installed in an accessible location. The key box shall be of an approved type and shall contain keys to gain access as required by the code official. The keys to the pump house room shall be placed in the knox box o ? 912.4 Signs for FDC A metal sign with raised letters at least 1 inch (25mm) in size shall be o mounted on all fire department connections serving automatic sprinklers, standpipes or fire pump connections. Such signs shall read: AUTOMATIC SPRINKLERS or STANDPIPES or TEST CONNECTION or a combination thereof as applicable. ? 901.5 Installation acceptance testing. Fire detection and alarm systems, fire-extinguishing systems, fire hydrant o systems, fire standpipe systems, fire pump systems, private fire service main and all other fire protection systems and appurtenances thereto shall be subject to acceptance tests as contained in the installation standards and as approved by the code official. The code official shall be notified before any required acceptance testing All underground piping shall be tested and inspected prior to tie in . o All underground piping shall be flushed and witnessed by our staff. o ? 913.3 Temperature of pump room. Suitable means shall be provided for maintaining the temperature of a o pump room or pump house, where required, above 40°F (5°C). ? 913.5.1 Acceptance test. Acceptance testing shall be done in accordance with the requirements of o NFPA 20. ? 913.2 Protection against interruption of service. The fire pump, driver, and controller shall be protected in accordance with o NFPA 20 against possible interruption of service through damage caused by explosion, fire, flood, earthquake, rodents, insects, windstorm, freezing, vandalism and other adverse conditions . The Fire Pump Room shall be rated at least 1 hour construction o ? 913.4 Valve supervision. Where provided, the fire pump suction, discharge and bypass valves, and o the isolation valves on the backflow prevention device or assembly shall be supervised open by one of the following methods. ?Central-station, proprietary, or remote-station signaling service. ?Local signaling service that will cause the sounding of an audible signal at a constantly attended location. ?Locking valves open. Sealing of valves and approved weekly recorded inspection ? where valves are located within fenced enclosures under the control of the owner . ? 903.3.5 Water supplies. Water supplies for automatic sprinkler systems shall comply with this o section and the standards referenced in Section 903.3.1. The potable water supply shall be protected against backflow in accordance with the requirements of this section and the International Plumbing Code All tanks shall be installed in accordance with NFPA 22 . o NOTES Insulation of the piping in the attic to comply with NFPA 13. 2002 Edition Thank you again for submitting the plans for the Sky View Meadow Village Sprinkler System.
