The evaluation was performed using hand auger borings during moist soil conditions based on the criteria found in the State Subsurface Rules, 15ANCAC “Laws and Rules for Sewage Treatment and Disposal Systems”. From this evaluation, ASC sketched the boundary between the suitable soils and unsuitable soils onto a background map taken from the Harnett County GIS database. At the time of evaluation, the owner had located the existing septic system. A septic permit could not be located with the Harnett County Health Department. The existing septic drainfield is being pumped from the existing building to the back of the property to a distribution box. The existing septic drainfield is consisted of 4 lines at ~115 feet each for a total of 460’ of septic nitrification ditches. Based on my evaluation I would assume a long term acceptance rate (LTAR) of 0.4 gallons/ft2/day. Based on my calculations I would and experience I would assume a daily flow rate of the system to accommodate up to 750 gallons/day. The owner has indicated the a “pet grooming” facility is the future intended use. The owner has indicated that a max of four employees will operate in the facility on a daily basis with “normal” business hours. The owner had indicated that animal hair will not be discharged into the septic system. Referencing the s State Subsurface Rules, 15ANCAC (18E) a equivalent facility type could not be found. In my opinion a reasonable comparable facility would be a “Beauty Shop or hair salon” with have a daily flow rate of 125 gal/chair assigned as a daily flow rate. Based on the facility to support up to 4 employees I would assume a conservative daily flow rate of 500 gallons/day. Based on these interpretations of the existing rules and the assumed capacity of the existing septic system I see no issue with the septic system to support the change of use from daycare facility to a pet grooming facility. Additionally, a repair area for the existing building was located and shown on the accompanying soil map. The repair area was found to contain approximately 10,000 ft2 of suitable soils that consist of a sandy loam to sandy clay loam subsoil that can support a daily loading rate of 0.3-0.4 gallons/day/ft2. The accompanying soil map is preliminary in nature, no further assumptions or subdivision should be made without a more detailed evaluation. If you have any questions regarding the findings on the attached map or in this report, please feel free to contact me anytime. Thank you allowing me to perform this site evaluation for you.
