• There area proximately 20 locations in Dunn
that meet the conditions for data centers
under current ordinances.
• Restricted to 1-100 Heavy Industrial zones, 500ft
buffer from residential areas. Assuming 10+ acres
needed. More locations if smaller data centers are
built
• Need to be sent to the technical review
committee.
• Need approval from Public Utilities
• There is nothing in current ordinances to ban it.
Takeaways:
• Data Center Development in North Carolina is
happening with an increasing rate.
• City Leaders need to weigh the Social &
Environmental impact of data centers on their
citizens vs the economic incentives. (2)
• Consider long term land usage and sustainability.(2)
• Consider an amendment to the UDO.
• Planning has been directed to start exploring the
Potential amendments to the UDO.
