REGULAR MEETING
JANUARY 6,2026
6:30 P.M.
Present: Board Chairman Danny Moody, Secretary Rickie Day, Members: Allison Fenderson,
Betsy McCormick, and Russ Ugone
Staff: Director Claire Jones and Assistant Director Sarah Rathke
Mr. Moody called the meeting to order at 6:33 p.m. with the Pledge ofAllegiance.
Public Comment:
Margaret Mueller
New Business:
Mrs. Jones introduced the new Assistant Director, Sarah Rathke. She also announced that Kelly
Castleberry has been promoted to Election Technician and noted that the office currently has two
open positions for Election Specialists.
Mrs. Jones reported that the County commissioners approved funding for the Ballot on Demand
System, which will be utilized in the Primary Election.
Mrs. Jones highlighted that the Board must provide a 2l-day notice to the local political parties
to submit a list ofearly voting poll workers. The deadline for submission is January 29th, and the
matter will be discussed by the Board at the February 3 meeting. Mrs. Jones stated that she will
send a notice ernail to the party chairs.
Director Updates
Mrs. Jones discussed:
. Upcoming poll worker trainings
. The North Carolina State Board of Elections Winter Conference. Updated registration repair project statistics
. Next steps for poll worker recruitment prior to the General Election
Approval of Minutes:
The Board reviewed the minutes fiom the Decernber 12,2025, meeting.
Mr. Day moved to approve the minutes, and Mr. Ugone seconded the motion.
Approved without dissent.
Mr. Moody provided comments regarding poll worker training.
Closed Session:
Mr. Day moved to close the open session, and Mr. Ugone seconded the motion.
The motion carried without dissent, and the meeting entered closed session, which was closed
from public disclosure.
A motion to reopen the session was made by Mrs. McCormick, seconded by Ms. Fenderson, and
was approved without dissent.
Other Business:
Chairman Moody announced that the next Board meeting will be held on February 3,2026.
Adjournment:
Mr. Day moved to adjourn the meeting, and Ms. Fenderson seconded the motion
The motion carried without dissent.
