Dear Mr. Reese,
A soil investigation has been conducted at the above referenced properties, located on the
eastern side of Cotton Road (SR 1426) in Harnett County, North Carolina. The purpose of the
investigation was to determine the ability of each lot to support a subsurface sewage waste
disposal system and repair area for a typical three or four-bedroom home. It is our understanding
that individual septic systems and public water supplies will be utilized at this site.
All soil ratings and determinations were made in accordance with "Laws and Rules for
Sewage Treatment and Disposal Systems, 15A NCAC 18A .1900". This report represents my
professional opinion as a Licensed Soil Scientist but does not guarantee or represent permit
approval for any lot by the Local Health Department (LHD). An improvement permit for all
residences will need to be obtained from the LHD that specifies the proposed home size and
location, and the design and location of the septic system to be installed.
The site was observed to be underlain by a mixture of soils that range from suitable to
unsuitable for subsurface sewage waste disposal. The soils indicated as suitable were observed
to be deep, well drained, sandy loams and loams which extended to greater than 42 inches below
ground surface. You should expect that 50 to 66 feet of chamber drainline would be required for
the initial system per bedroom in the home.
The soils shown as provisionally suitable will adequately function as sewage waste
disposal sites but will require additional drainline due to clayey textured subsoil characteristics.
You should expect that 80 to 100 feet of chamber drainline would be required for the initial
system per bedroom in the home.
The soils shown as provisionally suitable for low profile chamber systems are limited in
soil depth to the extent that low profile chamber type drainlines installed ultra-shallow will likely
be required. Due to ultra-shallow trench depths, the addition of approximately 6 inches of
topsoil will be necessary to completely cover the system. You should expect that 115 to 160 feet
of low-profile chamber drainlines would be required for the initial system per bedroom in the
home.

The soils indicated as provisionally suitable for drip systems are limited in soil depth to
the extent that subsurface drip dispersal systems will be required. These type systems are
significantly more expensive and are intended only for use as repair areas.
The unsuitable soil area is so rated due to inadequate soil depth to excessive soil wetness
conditions, unsuitable landscape position, mechanical disturbances, and/or regulatory setbacks.
The ability to utilize alternative systems or make modifications to this area to allow for septic
systems is minimal.
It appears that the soils on each proposed lot are adequate to support an initial septic
system and a repair area for a three-bedroom home. Most lots are adequate for four bedroom-
homes if desired. This soil investigation report and map, when provided to the LHD, should
allow them to sign the maps for recordation. I appreciate the opportunity to provide this service
and hope to be allowed to assist you again in the future. If you have any questions or need
additional information, please contact me at your convenience.
Sincerely,
Hal Owen
