Present were; Board Chairwoman Allison Fenderson, Secretary Jim Curtin, Members: Betsy McCormick, Bill McNutt, Lewis Bell, and Director Claire Jones Also present: See sign in sheet Ms. Fenderson called the meeting to order at 5:00 pm with a moment of silence and Pledge of Allegiance, led by Owen Curtin from Boy Scout troop 210. Public Comment: N/A Minutes: The Board reviewed the minutes from November 17, 2023. Mr. Curtin moved to approve the minutes. Mrs. McCormick seconded. Approved without dissent. Business: Mrs. Jones presented the following updates to the Board: • Outreach Events o Senior Centers- Coats January 29 and Dunn TBD o "Get your Vote on" Expo- February 8, 5:30pm- 7:30pm • Commissioner meeting December 12 to discuss election worker payroll through temp agency • Candidate Filing- noon December 4- noon December 15 • 2024 Election Calendar The Board reviewed the list of recommended Multi -partisan Assistant Team (MAT) members that will assist voters at Nursing Homes and Care facilities. After some discussion, Mrs. McCormick moved to approve the list. Mr. Curtin seconded. Approved without dissent. The Board discussed Session Law 2023-140 (SB747) section 27. (c), appointment of early voting officials. Per the NCSBE resolution, the County Board needs to notify the party chairs 21 days in advance of the appointment meeting date. In order to have the appointments done before election worker training, Mrs. McCormick moved to set the appointment date to January 2. Mr. McNutt seconded. Approved without dissent. Mrs. Jones will reach out and work with the parties to get the list ready. Mr. Curtin moved to go into closed session per GS 143-318.11(a)6 to discuss personnel. Mrs. McCormick seconded. Approved without dissent. The Board went into closed session at 5:33 pm. Mr. Currin moved to return to open session. Mr. McNutt seconded. Approved without dissent. The Board returned to open session at 6:10 pm With no further business to discuss, Mr. Currin moved to adjourn. Mrs. Fenderson seconded. Approved without dissent. The meeting adjourned at 6:10 pm. The next meeting of the Board will be a Regular meeting on January 2 at 5:00 pm.
