HomeMy WebLinkAboutHCBOE-November 15, 2005-Canvass MeetingHARNETT COUNTY BOARD OF ELECTIONS CANVASS MEETING MINUTES November 15, 2005 11:00 a.m. Present were William Randall, Chairman, Secretary Roy Tew and Walter Massey, Member. Also present were candidates Marshall Miller, Margaret House, Kevin Haynes; Members of the Citizenry Max Beasley, Johnny Shull, Robert Pleasant; Republican Party Chair Dan Maynard and Daily Record Report, Greg Phillips. Also present was Sherre Toler, Director, and Paula Stewart; Director of Harnett County IT Department. Mr. Randall called the meeting to order at 11:10 a.m. Minutes: Mr. Tew moved to approve the minutes of November 1, 2005 and November 8, 2005. Mr. Massey seconded. Approved without dissent. New Business: The Board reviewed provisional ballots for Angier. Ms. Toler indicated that 7 appeared to be valid and 1 appeared to be invalid. Mr. Tew moved to reject provisional ballot 8-7. Mr. Massey seconded. Approved without dissent. Mr. Tew moved to approve 8-1 through 8-6 and 8-8. Mr. Massey seconded. Approved without dissent. The Board reviewed provisional ballots for Coats. Ms. Toler indicated that 2 appeared to be valid and 4 appeared to be invalid. Mr. Tew moved to accept 13-1 and 13-2. Mr. Massey seconded. Approved without dissent. Mr. Massey moved to reject 13- 3, 13-4, 13-5 and 13-6. Mr. Tew seconded. Approved without dissent. The Board reviewed provisional ballots for Lillington. Ms. Toler indicated that there was only one, which appeared to be invalid. Mr. Tew moved to reject. Mr. Massey seconded. Approved without dissent. Provisional ballots were opened and fed through the machine. The Board reviewed outstack ballots and were unable to determine whether or not one ballot was counted by the machine. The board unanimously agreed not to add those results to the totals. The abstract was prepared Mr. Randall asked if there were any comments. No one in the audience responded. Mr. Massey moved to approve the abstract. Mr. Tew seconded. Approved without dissent. The Board agreed that if anyone chose to file a request for a recount, it would be held at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, November 18, 2005. The Board members will attend the machine demonstration in Raleigh on December 6, 2005. The next regular meeting of the board will be on December 13, 2005 at 3:00 p.m. Mr. Massey moved to adjourn.
